Job Description

Physical Education Teacher   Prekindergarten – Grade 2

Goal

The Westview School seeks an inspiring teacher who will deliver an individualized, developmentally appropriate physical education program to students in Prekindergarten through Lower Elementary. The physical education teacher will provide opportunities for students to gain confidence and engage in activities that promote healthy, active lifestyles throughout their lives. 

Qualifications

- Minimum BA in Education, required
- Valid Texas teacher Certification, required
- Special Education Certification, preferred
- Prior experience working with children with special needs, preferred

- Dynamic educator with a willingness to innovate and inspire
- A desire to promote healthy, active living across the entire school community
- A proven ability to differentiate and work with students at all skill levels
- A positive attitude and a commitment to collaborating with others
- An ability to communicate well orally and in writing with students, staff, and families
- Excellent organizational skills

Duties include, but not limited to:

- Design, plan, and implement appealing physical education lessons based on state standards using a variety of methodologies 
- Teach essential knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual and team sports to students in Prekindergarten through Lower Elementary 
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that is consistent with the physical limitations, needs, and capabilities of individual students and/or groups of students 
- Ensure accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and development of all students
- Encourage teamwork to meet collective and personal development goals
- Prepare written individualized progress reports to provide to parents, teachers and administration
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment
- Participate in in-service training to improve level of skill in working with students with disabilities
- Participate in extracurricular activities to show school support (Apraxia Walk, Trunk or Treat, Family Fun Day, etc.) 
- Cooperate with staff, principals, and the Head of School in providing activities for school events such as Field Day 
- Ensure that the physical education environment is clean, safe, and constructive for all students
- Ensure the personal safety of all students
- Ensure all equipment is in proper working order and that safety standards and school policies are followed at all times 
- Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned equipment to prevent loss or abuse
- Organize and maintain curriculum and other resources
- Adhere to all administrative and school policies
