Creating Harmony: Music for Autism Concerts at The Westview School

April 12, 2025
By Teresa Procter, SLPD, CCC-SLP, MM, Texas Program Coordinator & Emcee, Music for Autism

Music for Autism concerts are a joyful experience. During the concerts, a magical partnership develops between our audiences, guest musical artists, and supportive volunteers. Together, we create an inclusive musical experience that encourages listening, moving, dancing, singing, and simply being present in who we are and where we are in this special musical experience.

The mission of Music for Autism is to "orchestra stronger lives," and for 13 years, interactive concerts with celebrated guest artists have captivated audiences in Texas at the Westview School. On concert day, audiences are welcomed into the Westview gym by the smiling faces and bright yellow shirts of our volunteers and kind faculty and staff from Westview. Each concert follows the same structure: Concert, Conducting, and Percussion Time. For new attendees to our concerts, a social story is sent following an RSVP.

Through the support of national partners, Music for Autism concerts are always free. Currently, our in-person concerts are held in Greater Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, and Baltimore. We also have an active virtual concert schedule throughout the year.

The Greater Houston branch of Music for Autism has partnered with Westview School for quarterly concerts since 2012. We recently have had favorite performances from the string quartet Apollo Chamber Players, mariachi, New Orleans jazz ensembles, The Phillip Hall Singers, and our featured guest artist for Westview's April concert which was WindSync.

As a Music for Autism Spotlight Artist, WindSync is celebrated for its concert programming and interactive outreach—most of all, its concerts are performed completely memorized! It has been an audience favorite at the Westview School, highlighting the beauty of music with the flute, the bassoon, the French horn, the clarinet, and the oboe.

We are so thankful for all our volunteers and attendees during the 2024-2025 concert calendar at The Westview School. We hope to see you next year at one of our concerts planned throughout the year. Stay tuned for dates to be released this summer. Music for Autism is committed to providing concert experiences that celebrate the power of music and movement with renowned and prolific musical artists.
