Position Overview
The Humanities teacher will be responsible for teaching English, World Geography, and Communication Applications (Speech), with a focus on creating engaging, accessible lessons for students on the autism spectrum. This position requires a teacher who is skilled in differentiating instruction, fostering communication skills, and adapting content to meet the individual needs of students. The teacher will work closely with a team to ensure that each student's academic and social-emotional development is supported in the classroom.

As we expand to include high school grades, we are seeking a passionate and adaptable Humanities teacher to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching English: Develop and deliver differentiated lessons in literature, reading comprehension, writing, and language arts. Emphasize critical thinking, literacy skills, and self-expression through reading and writing.
- Teaching Geography: Plan and implement lessons that introduce students to geographic concepts, map skills, world regions, and cultures, while making content accessible and engaging.
- Teaching Communication Applications (Speech): Teach students the fundamentals of effective communication, including speech delivery, presentation skills, and interpersonal communication. Focus on building confidence and competence in both formal and informal communication.
- Individualized Instruction: Tailor lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students, utilizing accommodations and modifications based on individual student needs.
- Behavior Management: Implement strategies to support students' behavior and emotional needs in the classroom, promoting positive interactions and a productive learning environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to create integrated learning experiences that support the holistic development of students.
- Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress through regular formative and summative assessments, and provide timely, constructive feedback. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding academic and social progress.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best practices in teaching students with autism and humanities instruction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Humanities, English, Geography, Communication, or a related field (Required)
- Texas Teacher Certification in English, Social Studies, or Speech (or eligibility to obtain certification in Texas)
- Experience working with students with autism or other developmental disabilities (preferred)
- Strong content knowledge of curricula and teaching methods
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including the use of accommodations and modifications
- Excellent communication skills, both with students and their families, as well as with the broader educational team
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive classroom where students feel supported and empowered to learn
Preferred Skills
- Experience using assistive technology and digital tools to support students with autism
- Knowledge of social skills development and behavioral interventions
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to teach multiple subjects and support a classroom with diverse learners
