Upper School Principal

Goal

The Westview School seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Upper School Principal to provide educational leadership by working collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and the community.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university - Required
  • Valid Principal Certification – Required
  • Five or more years of teaching experience - Required
  • Demonstrated experience with educational leadership and teacher evaluation
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs
  • Exemplifies instructional leadership, personal scholarship, a collaborative leadership style, personal integrity, strong interpersonal skills, effective communicator
  • Visionary leader to work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, families, and community members


Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Ability to collect and disaggregate data and utilize information to plan instructional practices
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement process and effective school operations


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily operations of school building (open, close, maintenance)
  • Monitor carpool at the beginning and end of each day
  • Respond to parent concerns
  • Respond to student behavioral issues
  • Review parent-staff correspondence and grade reports
  • Review instructional lesson plans
  • Serve as the instructional leader/consultant for curriculum planning and development
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students.
  • Recognize and celebrate excellence and achievement
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, conduct evaluation conferences with staff
  • Develop and maintain school calendars, master schedules, student databases, etc.
  • Assist other administrators with personnel matters
  • Prepare, review, and/or approve correspondence to keep parents informed of school events/activities
  • Prepare for staff meetings (create agenda, inform staff, etc.)
  • Maintain documents on school Intranet
  • Support staff in planning for school field trips (reservations, schedule transportation, permission slips, etc.)
  • Prepare for any official inspections (Fire Dept., Child Care Licensing, etc.)
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with staff, therapists, support specialists, and parents
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain a professional appearance
  • Participate in in-service training to improve the staff skills in working with students with autism
  • Actively engage with the school community be attending extracurricular activities to show student support (Music for Autism, Trunk or Treat, Family Fun Day, Popsicles on the Playground, Westview EDU, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head of School
